Camping Chairman stepping down
1/17/2012

I have been in charge of the Camping at BRIR for over 10 years.  There have been many changes since I took it over from Race Director Richard Ault. The State of Michigan Health Dept. and DEQ have implemented many new rules (laws) over the past decade. Our Campground has grown from some 250 sites to close to 900. This year we are adding approximately 100 new sites. That said, I have also opened a new business in Escanaba "Splash of Color" Automotive Paint & Supply Store, and I am also still operating my Auto Body Shop which employees 8 Full Time Techs.
I just don't have the time to dedicate to the job of Camping Chairman. I would really like to thank all the Race Fans(Campers) who have made this job worthwhile. I have met some really Great People.
Our new Chairman is Fellow Lion member Dr. Scott Kwarciany of Bark River. He has been and continues to be very active in the Lions Club. He has held offices of King Lion, 4th of July Chairman, is the current Race Treasurer, and now Camping Chairman. I will still be helping out here and there.  Fellow Lion Pat Murray, who helped me out last year will now assist Scott.

Thanks and see you at the Races.
                            Lion Gary Lantagne

North Camping Expanded at BRIR
1/12/2012

The Bark River Lions Club has purchased adjoining property in the north campground area which extends to D Road (Co Rd. 535). This new area will provide approximately 100 new campsites for future use. It will expand the current number of sites in the campground to nearly 1000 sites.

I need to thank Gary Aderman & Sonny Davis for a summers worth of work. These two Gentlemen who I am proud to say are Bark River Lions members and my friends.

Since this Spring this Team has kept the Campground looking good. They roll up there sleeves and get it done. These guys don't let much slow them down, not only do they run the equipment but do most of the Maintanance & Repairs themselves.

Another Lions member Dwayne Carlson is always there when you need him to.Also a Big Thank You to Harvey Lewis and  Dale Beauchamp always ready for the challenge when we have some bigger repairs. These types of people make it possible to put on events like you see at BRIR. All Volunteers. I am proud of these guys. Thanks Guys you will never know how much I appreciate all your efforts. Thanks A Ton !!

R.I.P. Larry Belanger 1 15 11
1/19/2011

Its true, The Good they do Die Young. We lost a Friend and fellow Bark River LIONS member Sat. the 15th day of January at approx. 9:30a:m. Larry Belanger lost his long battle with cancer. Larry was Born Dec. 17th,1956 in Norway, The son of John and Florence (Gibour) Belanger. Larry has done alot for the Bark River Lions Club and the Bark River International Raceway that most people never knew about. He wasn't one that looked for any recognition or limelight for anything he did.
Larry spent countless hours helping put this website together, & constantly updateing it for me and others. More recently even during his treatments this past summer Larry would go out to the Race track and cut the grass in the Campground. All Summer through the hot sun he would climb aboard the ol Ford Tractor and made that Campground Beautiful for the Racers & Fans alike even though he wasn't feeling the best. Larry and his wife Marilyn have worked the Time Shack during the past several years. Rest in Peace Larry and Thanks Again. May the good Lord take you into his arms. We will always remember you Larry for your Smiles and Positive Attitude.

Please keep Larry and his Family in your thoughts and Prayers.
                                          Love & Respect
